Give Something. Change Everything.

In a small, unfurnished apartment, Devan and her one-year-old twins, Layla and Liam, were finally safe. She was alone in an unfamiliar city, with no job and no support, but the thin mattress they shared on the floor represented a fresh start and an opportunity for Devan to rewrite her family’s legacy after an unthinkable start.

At birth, Layla was diagnosed with Noonan Syndrome, a rare genetic condition that would predestine her for a lifetime of health challenges. Her fragile body had already undergone one open-heart surgery at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. On a feeding tube at 3 months of age, Devan was told her precious baby girl would have to endure at least two additional operations. Layla and Liam were entirely dependent on their mother for survival, even though she didn’t know where their next meal would come from.

But one chance encounter at The Quinn House thrift store would change everything.

Pat Smoke, the manager of the thrift store, spotted Devan balancing two babies on each hip while searching desperately for the lowest-priced items on the rack. Realizing Devan was exhausted and struggling, Pat stepped in and learned about Devan’s heartbreaking situation. She then offered to furnish her apartment. Pat even provided car seats and a double stroller Devan could use to safely take both children to their doctors’ appointments.

That Christmas, Pat contacted Devan asking if she could provide gifts for the children. Pat's gesture wasn’t only kindness; it was a demonstration of uncommon generosity. To Devan, it restored her dignity and gave her hope.

Now, with a full-time job and both kids in daycare, Devan can focus less on survival and embrace the joy of being a mother.

Pat gave something and changed everything for Devan and her babies.

On this National Give Something Away Day, we invite you to join us to impact more families, like Devan’s. Your generous gift of $10 today can create a new chapter for someone tomorrow.
